QMMC Professional Nurse Training Program (PNTP) Requirements

1. Application letter to Angeles T. De Leon (Medical Center Chief II)
2. Transcript of Records
3. Diploma
4. PRC License Photocopy
5. NBI Clearance
6. Board Rating and Certificate of Passing
7. 1 pc. 2x2 picture
  • 2 months ward training
  • P 1,000 / month fee
Complete the requirements then head on to QMMC. I forgot the name of the office you're supposed to submit the requirements to (and no, it's NOT the Nursing Training Office) but just ask the guard and he'll know.

Note: They only accept applications every Mondays AND Fridays 1-4PM. We made the mistake of going there on a Thursday.

Just knock on the office door and you will be given an application form. Fill it up, attach the ID picture and submit it together with your complete requirements. You will then be told the date and time of your Pre Examination. In our case, we submitted last April 30 and were scheduled to take the exam on June 22. Long wait but I heard that it's already a sure thing. The exam is mainly for evaluation purposes and not for screening candidates. Although I read on the waiver / application form that you must obtain at least 75% on the pre and post test to receive a Certificate of Training. Otherwise, one would be given a Certificate of Attendance instead.

After the two month ward training (type of ward allocated alphabetically) one can choose to pursue training on special areas like ER and ICU. Although I've been told that the special areas eligible for training would depend on the ward that one is assigned to.

Will follow up on this post as soon as I get more information. Frankly, I am itching to get back to my all whites and smell ethyl rubbing alcohol every 15 minutes.

currently, i'm a trainee at QMMC-surgery ward.. the best hospital experience ever for me.. I haven't gone to the other areas but at surgery ward, for sure, you'll learn a lot.. from giving medications, to charting, to carrying out doctor's order.. Goodluck and Godbless!

Clarriscent said...

@Anonymous: I got OB ward (was praying for Medical Ward) but it's all good. I figured I'll learn loads regardless of my area. Thanks! Good luck!

hello...i must say your blog is very enlightening...thanks for sharing valuable info...
im planning to attend training at QMMC, can i ask for directions going there? i will be coming from sampaloc manila...i am near welcome rotonda along espana...thanks so much for your help

Clarriscent said...

I'm not sure if there's a faster way but you can take LRT2 Recto-Santolan, get off at Anonas station, walk to Hi-Top Supermarket and ask one of the tricycles there to take you to QMMC/Labor Hosp. ;) Your welcome. Thanks for reading! :)

thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences through your blog...my second course is nursing...i am in my 40s already, i graduated in nursing last 2006 and since then i wasnt able to undergo training in hospitals after i graduated, because i became busy with my two children...now, i wanted to pursue training in hospitals and im worried that at my age, some hospitals may not be willing to accept me...im interested to undergo training at QMMC, do you think they can accept me? are there any trainees there in QMMC that are second coursers like me? thank you so much for your time and good luck to all your endeavors.

Clarriscent said...

@Matilda: QMMC accepts everyone as long as they have a valid PRC license and have passed the pre-test. The nursing division have tweaked the training module and now only accepts examinees with passing scores in their pre-test. Before, almost everyone who takes the exam gets in, now, I've heard that they only accept half of the group with the highest scores.

You don't need to worry about your age. My group mates range from ages 20s-40s. :) Age doesn't matter in the area. Thanks so much for reading! Good luck!

Hi!
I've been working as a call center agent for more than 2 years now but I'm a registered nurse & have my IVT license as well.. I would REALLY love to pursue my Nursing career now but due to financial concerns.. I'm unable to.
If I'll pass the exam @ QMMC, can I still work while training? What's the usual schedule while training? Thank you.
I've been reading your posts and they're very good descriptions of how Nursing life should be. Keep it up! ;)

Clarriscent said...

@sYerai: The schedule of PNTPs in QMMC is a rotating one. 5 days a week, 8 hour shift per day. If you have a 6-2 shift this week, next week, you'll have 10-6 then 2-10 will follow. Sunday is always the first day of the new shift. Our 2 off duty days in the OB ward is by draw-lance.

I don't think you can work while training. A co-trainee of mine filed for a 1 month leave from her call center job then went back to it after a month. She said she did it just to have the experience. :) Wow, thanks for the compliments! Good luck!

what's the name of the chief resident in the department of surgery..???

Clarriscent said...

@Anonymous: Sorry, I don't have the information you are looking for. :)

yehs14 said...

Hi. Are they still accepting applicants for training?
Is there any possibility that you might get a regular job when you are a trainee in their hospital?

Thanks!

Clarriscent said...

@yehs14: Yes, I think they're still accepting applicants for training. PNTPs 'graduate' every month so I guess they need to replenish them. Almost all contractual nurses in the hospital starts from being a trainee. Although, I won't lie, like everywhere else, it would help tremendously if you know someone from the inside (which I don't unfortunately), if you know what I mean. ;)

still i don't have a license, just the claim stub. the release of our license is within 4mos. can i still apply?

hi, i saw ur blog and i was kinda ntrsted in it,, i worked as a private nurse for a year, i resigned bcoz i want to work in a hospital but in my case i dont have any training cert...thnx for your post..do they also have trainings in IVT,ECG and ACLS? thnx much..

Clarriscent said...

@Anonymous #1: As of the moment, QMMC is not accepting new applicants for the PNTP. The next entrance examination will be held on February 2011. Very long wait. I suggest you try other hospitals or take a breather first. ;)

@Anonymous #2: I don't think they have IVT, ECG and ACLS trainings for outsiders, only staff. As far as I know, they only have the ward/special area training for nurses. Hope this helps.

Anonymous said...

is there any schedule for ivt in QMMC this november 4?

Clarriscent said...

@Anonymous: As far as I know, QMMC does not host IVT Training Seminars.

Anonymous said...

mmmmbut sad to say , it takes a long long time to get ur certificates!

chamille said...

hi! i like your blog very much...thanks so much for being able to share your thoughts and experiences...
i'd like to try to apply to QMMC training program...you think its ok to undergo training there even without IVT training? thanks so much for your help

Clarriscent said...

@Anonymous: I've heard about that. That's why I'm not expecting my certificate to be released any day this year. Lol.

@chamille: Thank you so much! During our time, IVT trainings and BLS/First Aid were not prerequisites. But I think as of this time, they are already requiring applicants to submit certificates of these trainings to be able to undergo the entrance examination.

do i need to have a high board rating? whats the exam like?

Anonymous said...

@Matilda:I'm also a second courser and in mid-30's,have you applied for a training?Tnx much!

Clarriscent said...

@Anonymous No. 1: Not really but they do ask for your board rating, I don't know what for. The exam (at least in my day) consist of identification, fill in the blanks, computation and charting. Good luck!

Anonymous said...

just wanna ask if we need to bring the training fee already upon the submission of requirements thanks.

Clarriscent said...

@Anonymous: Training fee, no. You can pay that after you have already passed the entrance exam. :)

Anonymous said...

hi Clarriscent. :)
do you any idea if qmmc accepts applications for staff nurse position? or Are they just entertaining those applying as nurse trainees? i am planning to submit an application this january.. thank you!~ :)

Clarriscent said...

@Anonymous: Probably depends on your credentials. :) Staff nurses come and go so I think they're always open for fresh blood, however, I think they prioritize those who have trained first in their institution as PNTPs. I haven't met a single staff nurse / contractual who have not undergone the training period. Best of luck!

Anonymous said...

ok. thank you for that prompt response! :)
I would like to be as optimistic as possible this coming 2011, despite the fact that i have been actively trying to find a hospital job for almost 3years now.. i am june'07 board passer.. i'll try again my luck this year.. :))

Anonymous said...

thanks for this blog. anyways, are they still accepting applicants for PNTP? are we to submit a resume? how will they know if we already undergone an IVT training? thanks

Clarriscent said...

@Anonymous (1): Good luck! Hope you make it! :)

@Anonymous: If plans did not change from the last time I checked they will be starting to accept new PNTPs this February. IVT card/certificate and BLS certificate were added to the list of requirements to be submitted at the time and days mentioned. Good luck!

Anonymous said...

oh. i see. thanks anyway. :)

Anonymous said...

Is the BLS cert really needed? I'm really sad to know that it is already one of the requirements because mine is expired already. I'm already planning to go to QMMC this friday (Jan 7) because I have completed the requirements. Is it possible for me to just ask the requirements for PNTP over the phone? Thank you so much. Your site is such a relief :)

Clarriscent said...

@Anonymous: I distinctly remember seeing an announcement posted in the admin's door that BLS/First Aid and IVT Training cert/ID are already a part of the requirements. You can always call the Nursing office of QMMC to be sure. :)

Anonymous said...

i just wanna ask, after the result of the exam on feb 11 and the orientation on feb 15. when will be the start of the said training???

Clarriscent said...

@Anonymous: I don't know about the institution's routines nowadays since it has been a while since I was affiliated with the hospital, but in our experience last year, the wait period between the orientation and the deployment is between 2 weeks to 1 month. Good luck!

Anonymous said...

today is the released of an i fthe exam results. where cind it?? sabi kc smin sa website, pero ndi ko nmn mkita... i hope you can help me

Clarriscent said...

@Anonymous: Sorry, I cannot help you with that since I have not been affiliated with the hospital since last year. Good luck on the test results! Thanks for reading!

@Anonymous: (both the latest commenters)

I'm not sure. Better call the nursing office first or head on to the hospital to inquire. :) Sorry I can't be much help nowadays.

Anonymous said...

what are the types of questions for the qualifying exam? and how many items? thanks!

Clarriscent said...

@Anonymous: Read the comments, I think I've already stated an account of what our exam was like. I don't know if they changed it already but ours mainly consisted of identification, computation, transcription and charting. Good luck!

Anonymous said...

what's the contact number of this hosp.? anyone knows?

Anonymous said...

i just want to ask if the bls training should ONLY be done by Red Cross or not? thanks

Anonymous said...

i was a pntp for 5 mos. in qmmc..nice training they got,i learned a lot.my bf was a pntp for 2 yrs finally he got absorbed love it - rizza aƱonuevo

Clarriscent said...

@Anonymous: Try 4212250. Although I'm not sure if this number is still working.

@Anonymous: No, BLS training from any accredited institutions is accepted.

@Anonymous: I concur. I especially like how one just stays in one area and therefore masters the skills needed in that ward, even up to the proficiency of staff nurses. The people are really nice and accommodating, I never felt like a "slave" in the months I've spent training/volunteering there. There's even free food during special occasions. There's really nothing bad I can say about this hospital except for the minor fee we had to pay to be able to "train", but even that is not a problem anymore because they've abolished the required payment. So no complaints here.

hi good day... i'm just wondering if QMMC is still accepting new PNTP'S and what would be the requirements and can i ask any directions going to qmmc... thank you...

Hi good day!
I'm pregnant right now. And unfortunately, the ultrasound result showed that I have anencephalic baby. My ob told me that it would be risky if I take normal delivery so she suggested to prepare money for CS. I don't have. I heard about QMMC, they said it a good hospital. Please help me.

Anonymous said...

ok

Clarriscent said...

@Anonymous

QMMC is a great government hospital especially for people who cannot afford to pay for private health care. I don't know how much the fee for CS in our hosp but you can always go to the social services department and ask for financial discount aids there. You will be required, however, to buy materials, anesthesia, drugs and other supplies needed for the operation and post operative recovery on your own so better save up and the wards do get pretty crowded depending on the time of the month if you don't have PhilHealth. Hoping fr the best.
